Ilminster carnival to feature in TV series this month

2:34pm Tuesday 7th February 2012

THE wonders of Ilminster Carnival are to feature in a new BBC2 television series later this month.

Britain’s Heritage Heroes meets the men and women dedicated to saving the country’s rich and varied history and heritage.

It salutes skills, crafts and people needed to maintain this precious framework – many of whom are disappearing fast.

Presenters John Craven and Jules Hudson have zigzagged the length and breadth of the country to champion Britain’s Heritage Heroes as they battle to save our historic homes, national monuments, last wildernesses, industrial landscapes, traditional foods, crafts and animals.

The three-week nightly series started on Monday at 6.30pm. The third week starting on February 20 looks at Somerset and Dorset stories including a special feature on Ilminster Carnival.

The programme will also feature the historic twine works at nearby West Coker and the delights of Somerset’s cider brandy.
