VOLLEYBALL: Taunton Meerkats well-placed

11:08am Monday 6th February 2012

Taunton Meerkats team are handily placed in Division 2 of the Exeter Volleyball League just behind WVC Raptors on points difference.

The penultimate game of the season is against Raptors at Exeter School on March 4 and this could well decide the championship.

The success of the team is largely down to the wealth of experience of the individual players as this can be a telling factor in the later stages of matches against more youthful teams.

The future is bright however as ex-junior player, Hayley Butland, has already broken into the team and current juniors Beth Alvey, Esme Newman and Elliot Lipscombe look set to follow.

Alvey, Newman and Lipscombe plus other juniors Josh Wright and Keir Newman all train with their respective South-West regional squads and all hope to be selected to represent the South-West in the inter-regional championships in Kettering later this year.

The South-West are the current national champions in Under-15 boys and were runners-up in the Under-17 boys last year.
